Welcome, students from the PURDUE UNIVERSITY Departments of Food Science and Food Engineering. These pages have been added to this site to supplement the material presented and distributed during my visit to your campus on September 28, 1999.  The available line drawings and photographs are not of the finest quality for web page construction, but will hopefully serve as a reminder of what you saw during the slide based presentations.

A Click on Typical Cleaning Programs and Procedures will lead to a condensed version of the material presented to the DAIRY PRODUCTS class via the blackboard lecture and review of equipment in the Pilot Plant. This material was prepared by Dr. W.J. Harper and D.A. Seiberling for an Annual Midwest Workshop in Milk Sanitation presented by the Department of Dairy Technology in Colloraboration with the Ohio Department of Health in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Some newer products and technologies are not included, but the old products and procedures are still in use.

For both classes a Click on Development of Automated CIP will provide a condensed version of the slide presentation for three different time periods.  The DAIRY PRODUCTS class will also be able to relate some of these slides to the process observed at Kroger Dairy in Indianapolis. These are large pages which contain many photographs or line drawings and the first transfer may be a little slow.

If you wish to investigate CIP Cleaning in greater depth, Click on Evolution of CIP and follow the subsequent links for an introduction to CIP Systems, Chemical Feed Equipment, CIP Control Systems, CIP Supply/Return Piping Systems, Spray Devices, and Components used for fully automated CIPable processes.

Feel free to submit questions or comments about this material to DSeib4CIP@aol.com via your regular E-Mail system as the E-Mail component of this site is not yet operative.

Though prepared especially for the students at PURDUE UNIVERSITY, this information, and comparable support, is offered to any student or group of students engaged in the study of any facet of the highly automated dairy and food processes which were made possible by the development and application of CIP.
